Easy DIY Jurassic Park Wagon Cage (Toddler Dinosaur Costume)

If you’ve followed our Halloween adventures, you know we love a theme. For 2025, we decided to go bigger. Like… Jurassic-sized.

This year Aydin is our baby dinosaur, safely “captured” in his very own Jurassic Park wagon cage. I made a simplified, no-power-tools version that I am hoping gives you inspiration for your next family costume.

What You’ll Need

Cage setup

  • Toddler wagon (we used this wagon)
  • 7 PVC pipes (¾-inch)
  • 8 PVC elbow joints and 12 T-connectors
  • Bher black matte spray paint
  • PVC cutter
  • Measuring tape

Cage details

Easy Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Build the frame

Measure your wagon roughly, then cut the PVC pipes to length. Use the elbow connectors to make a rectangular “cage.”

Tips

It’s much easier if you draw the design out yourself on a piece of paper to make sure you get all the measurements correct.

Step 2: Paint and decorate

Spray paint the PVC pipes outdoors. Once dry, wrap them with faux vines and tape on Jurassic logos or warning signs.

Step 3: Add details

Wrap silver yarn around the cage to create a barbed wire look.

Step 4: Create the scene

Line the wagon with vines and greenery to look like jungle.

Step 5: Load the “dino”

Dress your toddler in a cozy dinosaur onesie – this is the one that we purchased linked here.

The Final Look

The entire build took roughly two hours and cost about $40. Huge thanks to Well, She Tried for the original idea. Their project gave me the confidence to make a version simple enough for any parent to tackle.

Why I Love Easy DIY Costumes

I used to think DIY meant complicated, but now, it’s my favorite creative outlet. From Aydin’s spaghetti & meatballs costume last year to this year’s Jurassic Park build, each Halloween reminds me that the joy is in making, not perfecting.

If you try it, tag me @rusafameer! I’d love to see your mini dinos and wagons in the wild.
